At 85 years old, jazz late legend Boyd Lee Dunlop (1926-2013) released his debut album, Boyd's Blues, produced by photojournalist Brendan Bannon and music producer Allen Farmelo. The album debuted as the #1 jazz album on iTunes and hit #28 on Billboard's Heatseeker chart.
I managed production, distribution, and publicity for the release. On the production side, I coordinated the physical and digital release, including setting up iTunes distribution. On the ground, I fulfilled all direct-to-consumer CD orders myself — packing and shipping every copy. I also co-produced a live performance at Asbury Hall in conjunction with Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center and the Colored Musicians Club to support the release.
For publicity, I wrote all press materials and ran media outreach, which landed coverage in The New York Times, NPR, CBC, and Artvoice, along with a New York Times short film by Todd Heiser and a CBC documentary.
